Re-Think is a student project centered on sustainability, waste management, and single-use plastic at Southern Oregon University. The project involves student participation and donation of recycled materials that have been incorporated into a standing sculpture.
About
Our Goals

-
Start conversations about sustainability and waste management
-
Promote community and collaboration through art
Re-Think is an art project promoting sustainable thinking and new alternatives to single-use plastics. We are working to create a sculpture made from recycled materials donated by the community that will be showcased at the Oregon Fringe Festival. Materials can be donated in the form of Ecobricks: plastic bottles with compacted plastic scraps inside them. We are using Ecobricks as lightweight building blocks for a larger structure.
Over 100 million tons of waste go directly into landfills annually in the US, with plastic making up more than 18% of that amount1. Everyone generates some plastic waste: so instead of throwing it away, donate it!

Ecobricks are bottles packed with non-recyclable plastic that would usually be thrown away and go to a landfill. Creating Ecobricks with these plastic prevents them from taking up space in landfills and polluting outdoor spaces. Ecobricks make sturdy and lightweight building material -- they can be used in construction for homes and gardens. Creating Ecobricks is a practice that allows us to be mindful of the materials around us while actively keeping plastics contained through manual recycling.
